I was asked to write a story for the website "Readwave" - so I did - you can click on the link to read the whole thing!  -

  1. Wonderful story Joan. We also need someone to rescue those dogs who are prisoners, the ones that NEVER get out except to pee (some don't even get that). They are denied a normal life of walks, nature and socialization. We have several of these dogs in my neighbourhood.

  2. Had no idea you were rescuing dogs like this. You are an incredible lady. A friend of mine knows someone who liberated a dog once. They didn't ask the owner, they liberated the dog (they do things different in the country). Your approach makes a lot of sense. I assume you shoulder any veterinary costs. Do you do any fundraising ? Just wondered. - Mike Antonio

  3. I haven't done any fundraising yet, Mike - I've just been absorbing the costs - about $6,000 to date - but I have just finished up an online auction on the facebook site that raised a bit of money which was very good - I'll be doing more fund raising in the future - it's hard to fund raise and do rescue when you are just starting out.

  4. I am starting to think that you should need a licence and training in order to own a dog. Not everyone should be allowed to have a dog. But then ... it's a slippery slope as not everyone should be allowed to have kids ... sigh ... I wish the world weren't so complicated. Thank you for making a difference.
