New Private Dog Park Opening on the Lucasville Road

The owners of Paw Prints Doggy Day Care are opening a private, 6 acre fully fenced in dog park on the Lucasville Road - and they are looking for members to sign up to join.

With the absolute dirth of public off leash space that the Halifax Regional Municipality has provided to the tax pay dog owners of the city - it's an idea who's time has come and I'd imagine the private dog park will have an absolute huge amount of members - myself among them - as long as they are loose with their vaccination requirements, because I do not vaccinate my dogs.

That will be a killer if they require all those stupid unnecessary vaccinations.

Anyway - if you want to sign up or get more information - you can email Darlene Walker at pawprints_63@hotmail.com

But remember if your dog has amstaff, pit or any other bully breed you r not welcome... so tell me will the yellow lab who jumped over my fenced in yard and attacked my little amstaff as she lay on her back unsure why he doesn't like her.... be allowed in your dumb park... you'd have to pay me to step foot in your park... good luck as i have already started letting all me friends know how your park won't allow my babies in.

I completely agree! I hate breed discrimination. I own a bordie collie and was very excited to hear about the park, but when I heard about the breed discrimination there was no way I was taking my girl there. All breeds should be welcome. My girl has been bitten more times on her paws by a dachshund then I can count, but wait...that is cute and ok, because they are little. Wrong!!!! End Rant!!!

I agree. We have a pitbull and a 15 month old who loves her. We don't have to worry about our pitbull biting our baby, we have to worry about when we visit a family member who has a french bulldog. So not far.

I say I have to agree with Anonymous.......I have 2 rotties. Always had big dogs. Not sure if you discriminate against rotties or not, but any discrimination against ANY BREED........is discrimination!!!!!

if you are going to have this kind of park, then educate people on the different type of breeds, if they then choose not to come in, then that's their problem. Why should my dog not have fun because people are haters....

What about akitas? they are the most agressive and dangerous breed and they aren't even on the banned list. these people don't seen to fully know what they are doing. they should allow pit and bully breeds in as long as they pass the screening process. This park won't get a cent of my money.

I agree! I have spread word about the breed discrimination that is going on. There are many people who will not step foot in this park and many of these people don't own the pitbull/amstaff/large breed type of dog.

The park is designed for non aggressive dogs. Who wants a dog that may attack other dogs. Most people that use the park have lots of stories of aggressive dogs attacking so this is why they are using this park. All dogs are walked around the park and aggression is monitor to see if the dog is a proper fit. Guess what if your dog is not a fit I suggest you stop your whining about "breed discrimination"(LOL) and grow up! As for that lab that attacked it would not also be a fit if it is aggressive.

My dog should be given a fair chance and consideration based on her aggression, not what her mutt genetics make her look like. Maybe get more informed about what breed shaming actually is being commenting.

I have a pit mix, and we are not allowed in this park. BUT in the land owners defence, it is NOT their personal choice. Insurance is required for this type of park, and any insurance available outright bans blockheaded breeds, regardless of temperament. I am obviously ticked off about it, and am shamed for owning my lovely sook of a dog all the time, but let's not shit on innocent people for something that is not their fault.

    1. I actually have emails from the owners saying that it's got nothing to do with insurance = this is an email from Ken Walker - one of the owners of the dog park when I queried him about pit bulls being allowed at the dog park:

"oan, thank you for your responds, my only question is, How to deal with the frighten people of these breeds?

And what the community is doing about the dead children of these breeds.

One dead child is one to many. I am not saying this is the only breeds biting. But when the do they KILL.

Sorry you don't see my side, but there are two sides to every story. I know you are going to tell me about the bad dog owners.

That still does not resolve the problem. If you are planning to work hard for all breeds I applaud you. But, please remember the dead children and work toward a solution."

    2. And just to let you know - only ONE person has only ever been killed in Canada since 1983 from a bully breed. Lots of other people have been killed from other breeds - and those breeds are allowed - so I don't know what he means by dead children - there are lots of dead children from dogs - but no child has ever been killed in Canada from a bully breed. And that is a fact.
