The below video was on Facebook tonight and I really liked it, it's short, pithy and to the point. It has an associated website that actually goes into neighbourhoods and works with affected youth who have dogs that they'd normally train to fight - but instead they are working to train them to do other things - I think it's a great initiative. Their website is at - http://www.knockoutdogfighting.org/join_us.html
They also bring up the idea - which I've talked about before - about the fact that dog fighting is not only animal abuse - but quite often child abuse - because children are around when the dogs are being abused - and certain demographics believe that dog fighting is part of their "culture". At some points in history, cars didn't come with seat belts, it was acceptable to drink and drive - but with the power public perception - and realizing that some things just are really not the right thing to do anymore - we as the public were able to stop things from happening for the most part - and I think we can make that happening with the sport of dog fighting too. We can only hope.
Here's the video -
and speaking of pit bulls - this week I found a video on "Wimp.com" about some firefighters in Oakland California who resuscitated a pit bull type dog who had been in a house fire and the owners weren't home at the time and it blew me away - the dog was almost dead when the video starts, and as it progresses the dog slowly comes back to life until the end when her tail is wagging and her eyes are open and she seems almost back to normal.
But it's the actions of the fire fighters in the video that is SO moving - they are working HARD to save this dog's life - they want this dog to LIVE. And she's a PIT BULL. A type of dog that is being exterminated in so many places throughout the world - and they are treating her like they would any other type of dog - and in one spot one of the fire fighters says "my wife would take you home in a second" - because as she's revived she's acting so friendly and gentle.
The video just spoke to me - people need to see this video - it could really show people that pit bulls really are like every other type of dog and deserve the same kind of life and treatment as any other type of dog. If this little dog deserved to be saved - so should every other bully type of dog.
It's an amazing video - here it is -
OMG! That made my day,..you could just see how much they wanted her to live & did you see her eyes? She was so appreciative, sweet girl! I got goosebumps watching it!
