Something else I started thinking about today was the idea of - how we've allowed mainstream society to build up such a hatred - such a negative view of pet ownership, but at the same time every day there's something in that same mainsteam news media about how wonderful pet ownership is - about how a companion animal has saved a family member from sure death, or how important pet ownership is to general health, or how good seeing eye dogs are - it's such a dichotomy. It's a dilly of a pickle. A conundrum.
And I don't have the answer to the question of how the 2 ideas can co-exist - how we can hate pet ownership and think that companion animals shouldn't be out in the public landscape and yet recognize how important they are to our mental health and filling out of a full life.
I'm open to ideas. Even dog haters can pipe in.
