The Transformation and Adoption of Po
So finally Po has found a home. It took almost 6 months, lots of heartbreak - but Animal Rescue Coalitions, and all the people who came into contact with him refused to give up on him - and he finally has a happy ending. He is now going to live out his days in Dartmouth Nova Scotia with a family who loves him and is willing to spend the time helping him to become the fantastic dog he was born to be.
In addition to the photos in this post - I've uploaded all the pictures I've been sent and put them in a slide show at the bottom of this post so that we can see his transformation over the months. I've had conversations with people over what breed they think Po/Henry is, and the breed we've nailed it down to pretty much is that he's probably mostly wheaten - and he has turned into quite a beautiful wheaten I think.
His life in the first five years was so horrible - more horrible than probably anyone could have imagined - being completely abandoned in a back yard and never having been groomed in that time. And being left to do nothing but bark 24 hours a day at anything and everything - how can anyone expect that a good dog could come out of that immediately?
And yet Po turned out to have the most loving disposition - and the NEED to be loved that could consume the world. He has got a lot of time to make up for, as every formerly chained dog does. And it is SO wonderful that he's being given the opportunity to do it now. So many dogs don't.
So congratulations to Po, and congratulations to Animal Rescue Coalitions - and to hiss fosters Leslie and Aidas and Meagan.
Here's the slideshow -
There was recently a dog down in Corpus Christi USA who was left behind when his owners moved and he starved to death on his chain - and the neighbours around did nothing to help. His name was Shepp - and a lady has written a song called "Chained to You - dedicated to Shepp" - it's a must watch - Shepp was rescued only hours before he died, unfortunately - with his collar embedded in his neck. There are video news reports of his rescue at http://www.kztv10.com/Special%20Projects/305.htm Dogs Deserve Better has a page dedicated to him at http://www.dogsdeservebetter.com/justiceforshepp.html
What a happy ending to Po's story,I couldn't be happier for him!
ReplyDeleteI passed by his old home the other day, where he was tied for so many years, unloved. His doghouse still sits behind the fence and thankfully he will never see it again!

ReplyDeleteLove the update could not watch the video thou I started to cry after two pics. I am happy for po I was thinking of him yesterday :)
ReplyDeleteOh, more great news! I have thought of PO/Henry often and hoped he'd find his perfect home. I'm so thrilled he has. Kudos to ARC and his foster families.
ReplyDeleteSpecial thanks to Corinne -- one neighbour who did NOT stand by and let animal cruelty continue. You stepped up to the plate when many others did not.
There are no words to express our thanks to everyone..those that alerted ARC to his plight, those that helped with the transport and care, those that offered support and encouragement, we want to thank everyone who played a part in rescuing and helping Po/Henry, we as a collective group plus with the efforts of many who helped pave the way for all the great things that lay ahead for him. Gone are the days of being hungry and lonely, here are the continued days of being loved, welcomed and wanted. Your boyfriend might not have been the easiest placement Joan, but one of those that remind us what rescue is and why we continue… once again thank you to one and all…. for helping OUR boy become the gentleman we knew he could be…he deserves to be all he can be.

He looks like the Royal Henry and million bucks to boot! You'll have a GREAT warm Christmas this year Henry.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great happy ending for this dog. Thanks to everyone who helped him. If only we could save them all, it breaks my heart to think there are dogs out there right now in the conditions Po was found in. We need tougher laws and mostly we need people to get educated on right and wrong and start reporting their neighbours who are neglecting these animals. If they don't report them, how can anyone ever save the poor animals from their cruel owners?
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes!
ReplyDeleteIs that 1st picture and 2nd picture the same dog??
All the photos in this post are of the same dog - who has had several names on his journey in the last months - Po, Henry, Charlie - and I think his permanent name is Henry now. But he is as beautiful as he looks - he was always that beautiful - nobody knew it.
