Halloween Pug Party and Bark & Fitz!

Today I just happened to be at Bark & Fitz when a halloween pug party was going on - so I HAD to take photos - who wouldn't? The dogs were just too cute!

What we were actually there for was to get Jackie a hair cute - which we successfully did - and boy was he happy when it was over.
I am quite sure he feels like a million bucks when he's got a fresh hair cut - just like most proper gentlemen.

  1. Nice! I wonder if the groomer there would be successful with clipping my rat bastard for me?

I know I am probably in the minority ,but dressing dogs in costumes only reinforces the idea that they are no different than stuffed toys and can be thrown away like something bought at Wal Mart.RG

  4. Anonymous - how did you deduct that dressing animals in costumes makes them no different than things you throw away? I fail to see the connection........toys? dogs?

I dress my dogs in costumes - heck they even wear coats & sweaters *gasp* - does that mean I'm going to "throw them away like something from Wal-Mart"?

Rather than post something this ridiculous - may I suggest you use the back button? If you don't like seeing animals in costumes - don't look at the pictures.

And if you truly read & knew Joan's blog - do you think she would actually post anything that would even suggest people would throw away their animals if she posted cute pics?

    Get a grip.

  5. I agree Three Dogs Long - Buttercup has a whole wardrobe - a lot of which exists to keep her warm in the winter, but she also has a couple party dresses which she has that take her from being the most beautiful dog in the world to the most beautiful AND the cutest dog in the world - and she loves the extra attention it gets her, I'm sure. And who wouldn't want to wear a t-shirt that says "I'm a dogkisser" on it? If your dog can handle wearing a sweater or a frilly collar - it can help with the bonding process, it makes them appear a lot less scary to people who are afraid of dogs, it's a good way to start a conversation with people about dogs that you wouldn't otherwise have the chance to do it with, I think it's all good - and the dog is getting extra attention. I know that when you put a cute bandana on a rottweiller they go from being scary to 90% of people to being cute and funny to 75% of people. And what is better than that.

RG, I generally agree with your comments, but have to part ways with you on this one.

In my experience, folk who are inclined to dress their dogs (or, god forbid their cats LOL) in costumes or cute outfits are the LEAST likely to toss them aside like something they bought at Wal-Mart. Do you know how much those silly dog outfits or sweaters cost??? The pets I know in this circumstance are the most pampered, reveered and loved animals I know. I hope I come back as one of them in my next life.

I can guarantee that the neglected dog at the end of the chain or the one abandoned on the side of the road has never had a sweater, a cute Halloween costume or jaunty scarf in their lives.

  7. I remember the first sweater I got for McG... almost eleven years ago and he was so happy when i put it on him he kissed me on the nose.... he has sweaters and coats and rainjackets and parkas and boots ... he is groomed year round so this way the little man is always warm and dry and comfy. The big dogs will get scarves when they outgrow the need to tow each other around with them ; ))) We dress our dogs for many reasons, but it is a sign of love, not carelessness.

If all the money that is spent on costumes for dogs or cats who by the way have no vanity issues were used for TNR or Low/No Cost Spay/Neuter programs NS and NB would be much closer to No Kill. After all isn't that the goal?RG

  9. Not to turn this into an argument -but if I wish to spend my money on my animals, that is my chosing. Your logic is lost on me.

I am totally low cost spay/neuter programs - as a matter of fact PEI has one in place http://www.spayaidpei.com/index-1.html (of which I am a member).

Now, if you are so inclined - why not start up a group of volunteers in NB or NS & do the same rather than complain because pet owners want to spend their own money on their pets?

Thankfully I make enough money (and I'm not rich) to both pamper my pet AND make contributions where I feel inclined toward pet causes. I don't see them as mutually exclusive activities.
