New Local Blog for dog Sanctioned to DIE

This is Brindi - her Mom is fighting for her life right now. She lives in Chezzetcook - and she has had the worst luck possible with neighbours and people in her community - there but for the grace of God go a lot of us with dogs who aren't small and fluffy. Her Mom also realizes that she's made some mistakes, but she is fighting with everything she can right now to try and not have it mean for the death of her once in a lifetime canine life companion Brindi.

Francesca - didn't know the seriousness of the visits Animal Control were making to her house - nor did she know that they could come and take her dog away and kill her without any notice or trial. And now they are going to do that - and Francesca is fighting for her life. Francesca feels that this is being done to placate members of her community who are afraid of dogs who look a certain way.

She has just launched a blog to talk about Brindi's story at http://freebrindi.blogspot.com/

Right now we need to give support to her - you should click over and see if there's anything you can do - and answer her poll that she has going to tell her what you think.

A lady named Pam has set up a Facebook group to bolster support for Francesca and Brindi - you can go to "Save Brindi!" to check it out.

There needs to be a "Depends on the circumstances" in that poll.
That`s not quite the same as "none of the above"
If a person is assaulting me,I would hope my Dog would attempt to stop them.(And the person might get killed.)
This is a perfect example of why muzzle orders are nonsense.
Dogs don`t put their own muzzles on and if they accidentally get out,well..
I know all the PERFECT people never allow their dogs to slip out but us humans...
The sentence doesn`t seem to fit the crime here.
It sounds like she was working on things.
    Great neighbours.
Glad I don`t live near them.
Hope your dogs never get out.
Hope you never make a mistake.
I`m sure it`s the look of the dog.
Benji or Lassie wouldn`t be sentenced to death.
I`d say fight it,appeal it and keep appealing.
    More owners need to fight.
    She admits mistakes.
Why should the dog pay for those mistakes?
Remember when there were no leash laws anywhere and dogs used to work it out,get along and not file lawsuits.
    Ah the good old days.
Is there a Facebook group for this dog yet?
    Every dog(almost)has one.

Bylaw A300 is what gives Halifax (the most anti-dog city I've even seen) the ability to arbitrarily kill your dog. This law needs to be challenged and defeated. I cannot imagine how the city can get away with seizure and destruction of animals in this manner.

I am totally sympathetic to Brindi and hope she can be saved.

I am confused about one point though. Her owner says she's never bitten a person or another dog, but then she says Brindi grabbed two dogs by the scruff of the neck. Would animal control consider these "bites?"

If it had been a bite, with a dog of Brindi's strength and abilities, there would be a large chunk missing from the other dog. An actual bite would have caused severe trauma and damage to the other dog, requiring immediate and extensive medical treatment. A single puncture wound is not a bite, when it comes to dogs.

Lots of dogs don't like other dogs, for various reasons, if you check petfinder you'll find thousands. Unfortunately a lot of people don't understand this and mistakenly see a dog fighting another dog as a prelude to an attack on a child. If you have a big black and tan dog, it better be perfect as there is such a fear out there of them. Sad, I hope she gets a fence up and they let Brindi have another chance and IF they do she better be 120% certain that there can be no more mistakes. This dog's life depends on it.

I NOTICED ON FRANCHESKA'S PETITION PAGE THAT SHE STATED THAT ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER WHO TOOK THE DOG TOLD HER THAT HE FIGURED THAT NEIGHBOURS WERE COMPLAINING BECAUSE SHE WAS AN OUTSIDER,IF THAT IS THE CASE I WOULD LIKE THAT ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER REMOVED THIS IS CANADA AND I WOULD CALL THE OMBUDSMAN OR HUMAN RIGHTS.I PERSONALLY THINK IT IS MEN AND ASSHOLES AT THE SPCA OFFICE WHO ALTHOUGH WE THINK THEY'RE GONE THEY ARE STILL MAKING THE DECISIONS AND THEY WILL SCHREW THIS CASE UP JUST LIKE THEY DID THE REST.BRINDI IS A VICTIM OF ASSHOLES PAID TAX DOLLARS TO PRETEND THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING WHEN THEY SHOULD BE HOME KNITTING OR CLEANING TOILETS WHICH PROBABLY WOULD EVEN CONFUSE THEIR SMALL MINDS.HOW IN THE HELL DO THESE GUYS GET YOUR TAX DOLLARS TO PLAY WITH SO EASILY.FIRE THEM ALL .GET SOME KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE THERE THAT CAN GET IT RIGHT.DOESN'T ANYONE KNOW THE LAW UP THERE ?WHERE'S THE MAYOR?TELL HIM TO STOP SWIMMING AND MAKE BETTER USE OF TAX DOLLARS BY TRAINING THE TAX GRABBERS TO LEARN AT LEAST HOW NOT TO BREAK THE LAW.

My god doesn't anyone care about peoples' right's anymore?I would sue the ass off the city and whoever is in charge of the animal control contract. Is this another case of nobody caring what happens when an employee professes to know it all and be answerable to no one but themseles.?????? Is METRO practicing the sick behavior that the nsspca has passed on by the previous clowns who wouldn't know which way is up if they tried???Brindi is a close companion animal misunderstood by people who don't want to get to know her.My experience with Animal control officers is they are all scared to death of animals and the only decisions their wives allow them to have are on their jobs away from home,so fire them all put some knowledgeable women in there who know exactly what the laws are and will take the time to adhere to them .BRINDI HAS TO LIVE.It's against the law to euthanize her
for no reason f...the neighbours, just put a fence up and tell neighbours wait for the lawsuits to be delivered..

No, the sentence isn't anywhere near the crime.
With or without the neighbours: it's not always a matter of one, but several factors. Law enforcement, like the law itself, does not happen in a vacuum. Nobody expects them to work all the time, but to whom are corrective mechanisms available - the average citizen, or group thereof?
Perhaps our illusions may be in need of correction, if at the core we are each helpless to protect our private sphere from state intrusion.
