The end of an era

I got a terribly sad email this morning. One of my dearest and oldest friends - Angus - died in his sleep last night. He was the sheltie to Andrew's collie. They were a beautiful couple to behold and they reigned court over Point Pleasant Park at 12pm and 4pm for many years with their Dad Glenn. I was blessed to share some of their walking time for a couple of years with Charlie and his sister Leonard, and we learned a lot during that time, and we got to meet a lot of great people - but we also got to get to know a couple of super dogs.

Andrew left Angus in 2006 - but Angus soldiered on without him until last night. I wrote up a little something for Andrew when he passed in 2006 and there's some more photos of them together in that post at http://dogkisser.blogspot.com/2006/06/passing-of-very-special-animal.html

Glenn took exceptional care of his animals to be able to share his life with them for that long - he's a lucky guy when you look at it from certain angles - but losing an animal is never easy - I hope there is a place where Angus and Andrew are together again, that would be sweet.

A Grief shared and understood by many.
It get`s easier.
Heart is only in a thousand pieces now, rather than a million.

R.I.P Angus

2. My most sincere condolences to Angus' owner.
How old was he?
I had a collie-setter mix, Howard, who lived to be almost 15. He had been neglected for a long while; I cleaned up his compounded skin infections (tail went bald), got meds for his hip dysplasia, better food, fish oil, glucosamine, the works. He was able to enjoy a wonderful last year and a half.. But it was still very, very hard for me to say goodbye.

These creatures are angels among us.

Sweetest pic of the sweetest looking dogs I've seen in awhile. Their lives are so short :(.

I will light a candle to guide him safely to the Bridge.

Borrowed story.
A little boy piped up after his dog had passed and his parents were wondering out loud why our best friends have such short lives?
'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good Life
-- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?' The
Six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they
don't have to stay as long.'
i think we sometimes forget that our dogs don't know they have short life spans. it is a problem for US--not for them. Is it not more important that Angus lived 11 years not knowing a day of unhappiness rather than a prolonged life with reduced quality? No matter how longe their life, they will always leave too early.

That also applies to human deaths.
Grief is not logical,it`s about emotion and love, whether it`s for a beloved pet or a person.
That`s why the death of a pet is so much harder to deal with.
Most of Society does not acknowledge the deaths of pets.
Having lost friends, parents, grandparents, young and old...the deaths of all my pets have been very painful but deaths of a couple of dogs have been just as devastating as the people that I truly loved and more devastating than people I cared for a lot but didn`t love.
It`s all about the love, not the Species.
It`s nice to be logical... but give me the love of a dog over logic.
The fact?(not sure how you know) that they don`t know that their life span is short has nothing to do with the grief.
Humans have no idea of their life span.
Unfortunately many believe that tomorrow WILL come.
Having lost a best friend at 21,I can tell you....don`t count on it!
Go for a walk today with your best friend(Dog or human)
..and don`t think about tomorrow while you`re walking.
Look at the birds,trees,bugs,rocks...that`s life.
I have learned that there really is no tomorrow.
Logical?
Logic isn`t part of my life anymore.
I go with emotion.
