Why DOES The NS SPCA Exist?

The events of the last couple days have led to a moral quandry.

Why does the NS SPCA exist? Does it exist to help the homeless and abandoned animals of Nova Scotia? Is it there to shelter animals of the Halifax Regional Municipality because it has a tender contract with the Municipality?

The NS SPCA is also the only organization - by it's own account - who can inspect and seize animals under the Animal Cruelty Act.

It is also an employer of staff - and as such - it also has an obligation to them. But it also has an obligation to train them properly in animal handling, compassion, and all aspects of working around stressed, sick, abused, confused, and potentially aggressive animals.

In the CBC news story - Pam Keddy said that the Celtic Pets dogs were killed because "We have to take our staff's consideration first and foremost because we are employers". I also received an anonymous email today that has Pam Keddy saying "These decisions occur during the normal course of conducting SPCA business at the shelter and the provincial office and as an employer, we have to put the health and safety of our staff first."

I really have to say that in the case of an animal sheltering organization - that this should NOT be the case. That the ANIMALS ALWAYS should come first.

Unless those dogs were trying to KILL the shelter staff - they should not have died.

In the same anonymous email Pam Keddy says that people like me - me being the author of this blog "do not have the SPCAs best interest at heart" - as opposed to people like her - with her being the president of the NS SPCA.

What I would like to say to that is - what interest I do have at my heart is the welfare of the animals that the SPCA is supposed to be sheltering. That is what I care about - and what I have always cared about. I actually do not now or have ever cared about the politics - I have only ever cared about the animals - which is what Pamela Keddy has always said is what she is there for. But I have very serious concerns as to the veracity of that belief. Especially at this juncture. Especially with all the dead animals. And no explanations for it. Only coy grins and explanations that it's for the shelter staff's safety. I for one am not buying it.

I was speaking with someone today who mentioned contacting Rodney MacDonald!!!! Here is my question or response to that - WHY would anyone think Rodney MacDonald would do anything to the Tories at the NSSPCA? Judith has been a Tory since before Christ, and Pam is of course anything anyone wants her to be as long as the money rolls in. Pam should be careful her wages don't get garnisheed and she won't have a pot to piss in an SPCA car to drive, SPCA CHECKS to cosign, or a chance to benefit from the Cinderalla Fund.

Personally whatever makes anyone AT the metro shelter think that they can get away with what they are ILLEGALLY doing to the family involved in the very obvious vendetta case in Cape Breton? IF you want results contact Michel Samson he is the Liberal critic in government and I THINK he will take care of this fraudulent flurry of Tory Maggots involved in
killing off any animals that need more time than others to heal from
abuse by owners who need their arse kicked in the first place. Rodney MacDonald has no balls, neither does the minister of Justice. NEUTERED AT THE TOP!! They won't rock the boat as long as they have their cronies in charge of the purse.

copied from the top right hand corner of your blog page.

If one person is unkind to an animal, it is considered to be cruelty, but where a lot of people are unkind to animals, especially in the name of commerce, the cruelty is condoned and, once sums of money are at stake, will be defended to the last, by otherwise intelligent people." - Ruth Harrison
